Chief Entrepreneurial Officer
Stephen Distante is the CEO (or as Steve likes to be called, “Chief Entrepreneurial Officer”) of Vanderbilt Financial Group, which was founded in 1965. As the leader of Vanderbilt, Steve serves the advisors and clients by responsibly managing the firm and by instilling a culture of compliance, kindness, and helpfulness. His most impactful purpose is to ensure that all facets of the company are working effectively and efficiently while always looking for the next, smarter, and better way to do things. Steve keeps constant focus on the big picture by working on the business, not in the business. He also holds the Vanderbilt Management Team accountable for preserving the vision and goals of the firm to ensure its success and longevity. A key ideal held among the Management Team is being in alignment. As Steve puts it – “We all have our oars in the water and rowing the same way!”
After graduating from St. John’s University with a degree in Accounting, Steve went to work for the prestigious CPA firm Deloitte Haskins and Sells, LLC. His background in accounting and auditing provides great depth in understanding business in a different way than most CEOs. Steve went on to open an OSJ office, which eventually grew to be a financial powerhouse with 33 tax offices, serving 37,000 income tax clients before acquiring Vanderbilt Financial Group.
Steve especially enjoys working everyday at the firm with his wife, Heidi, Vanderbilt’s Chief of Staff. Steve loyally serves on a number of community boards sharing his passion for service, business, and clarity in numbers. Steve is one of the Co-founders of the Long Island Catholic Men’s Ministry and was recognized as the 2015 INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) ambassador along with Heidi for their service of spreading awareness for the hungry and homeless on Long Island. He also proudly serves on the New York Board of The Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EONY) that is comprised of over 14,000 entrepreneurs worldwide, and is the 2017-2018 President of the New York Chapter and will run his platform on Impact Entrepreneurship.
Green Buildings are another passion of Steve’s and in 2013, Vanderbilt’s complete green renovation qualified the building as Long Island’s first LEED Platinum Certified office building. This is both an accomplishment for the organization and is also a testament to the pure and constant motivation to be socially and environmentally responsible. He lives by the mantra that in all things he does he works towards the betterment of himself and the betterment of those around him. Steve has ingrained these qualities into the Vanderbilt Financial Group’s core values.
