LEED Platinum Plaque Ceremony, Presentation & Tour

Our first and biggest event took place on April 20th where we celebrated being Long Island’s first official LEED Platinum office building. The Long Island Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC-LI) rallied an enthusiastic group of over 65 attendees to join our LEED Plaque Ceremony, Presentation & Tour.

The Event began with a media hour filled with conversation and networking. Nassau County Legislator, Rose Walker presented Vanderbilt CEO Steve Distante with a citation for the building. Verizon Fios also attended the event to film a segment for their program, Push Pause. The segment, “Our Community: Green Savings” can be found here.

The presentation featured 4 integral members of Vanderbilt’s LEED journey: Paul Meyer, LEED Consultant and Senior Vice President of WSP Parsons Brinkerhoff, Salvatore Ferrara, President of Combined Resources Consulting and Design Inc.; Diana Lillo, LEED-AP and Co-founder of ID Unique Solutions Inc.; and David Schieren of Empower Solar. Each member of our “LEED Team” helped us to surpass our goal of LEED Silver and attain Platinum. The presentation led into a building tour in which each LEED team member had a tour stop to discuss their specific contributions at length and take questions from attendees.

The highlight of the event was the 13 Environmental Studies students from Adelphi University. The students’ passion for sustainability was evident in their energy, attention, and participation. Another high point was our live streamed drone footage from BestAerialPhotos of our Solar Panel Array courtesy of EmPower Solar.

Thank you to everyone at USGBC-LI who helped to coordinate this event as well as all the community members who attended and shared their enthusiasm for green buildings!
