Vanderbilt is happy to announce one of the newest additions to our growing firm, financial professional Valerie Red-Horse Mohl! Valerie joins us from Sunnyvale, CA.
Valerie Red-Horse Mohl has over 25 years of in-depth experience as a securities principal and is the CEO and Founder of Red-Horse Financial Group, Inc. In her career, she has served as a financial advisor, asset manager, and investment banker having raised, structured, and managed over $4 billion in capital.
She is of Cherokee ancestry and launched what is believed to be the first Native American-owned investment bank in the U.S. and is a current appointee by U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to the Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity with a focus on access to capital. One of Valerie’s specific areas of expertise is portfolio construction with a mission alignment of values alongside financial returns. This includes specializing in ESG, DEI, and impact investing strategies. As an investment banker, she is currently working to build/finance renewable energy facilities on Native American tribal lands.
Valerie serves as the Advisory Board Chair of Stanford University’s Center for Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity where she also teaches an undergraduate course on Entrepreneurship for Social Impact and Racial Equity. She is also the founder and CEO of Red-Horse Native Productions, Inc., and is an award-winning filmmaker. Previously she served as the Executive Director of Social Venture Circle (an impact investing philanthropic organization), as the CFO of East Bay Community Foundation, and as President and Co-Founder of Known Holdings. In 2008, she was inducted into the National Association of Women Business Owners Hall of Fame and was recognized in 2022 as one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women.
Valerie married her college sweetheart, Curt, in 1982 and they have three children and two grandchildren. Valerie is very involved in her church (Crosswalk Community in Sunnyvale) where she serves as a small group leader. She and her family are avid sports fans, especially football, beach volleyball, and golf.
